Educational Project, Mission and Values

Everything we do at Collège Sainte-Marcelline rests on a common foundation: a clear mission, values lived every day and an educational project that places every student at the heart of priorities. Together, they shape the school's profound identity, and the promise we make to each family who places their trust in us.

Mission

From Potential to Excellence. From a Spark to Radiance. Together, Inspiring Humanity.

At Collège Sainte-Marcelline, the mission is not a slogan. It is a deep conviction that guides every decision, every relationship and every day within these walls.

From Potential to Excellence

Every young person arrives with unique potential, the will and ability to move forward, solve problems and face increasingly complex situations. Our role is to accompany them as they push beyond their own limits, far beyond what they thought possible.

Surpassing oneself is not reserved for the strongest. It is a path that everyone can walk, at their own pace, with the support of a school community that believes in them.

From a Spark to Radiance

We want to ignite in every student that spark which gives meaning to what they do. A passion, a curiosity, a unique way of seeing the world. Because it is that spark which will one day allow each young person to find their own path and shine in their community.

Shining means exercising a positive influence on those around you. It means fully reaching your potential and leaving your mark on the world.

Together, Inspiring Humanity

Marcelline pedagogy rests on a simple principle: we learn better through example than through discourse. That is why the school cultivates a true family spirit, where students, teachers and families walk the path together.

“Together” also means the meeting of generations. The presence of Résidence l’Amitié on the school grounds is the most tangible expression of this: young people and elders share their experiences and enhance one another’s lives.

Inspiring humanity means bringing out the best in every person. It means shaping young people whose presence, commitment and values will make a real difference, today and tomorrow.

Values

At Collège Sainte-Marcelline, values are not words posted on a wall. They reflect who we are, every day, together. Arising from a collective process involving our entire community, three strong values emerged: caring, mutual support and commitment.

Caring

Caring is the way we look at others: with respect, attentiveness and compassion. It welcomes without judgment, supports unconditionally and creates the climate of trust that allows every student and staff member to feel recognized and free to flourish.

It is through caring that we shine through the heart — not as a distant ideal, but as a concrete posture chosen every day.

Mutual Support

Mutual support is the choice not to face the journey alone. It is the conviction that we rise higher by leaning on one another. Among students, colleagues, families and school staff, mutual support weaves the bonds that make the school a true community.

Because inspiring humanity is never accomplished alone.

Commitment

Commitment is the renewed decision, every morning, to fully participate in one’s own growth, in the success of students and in the life of the school. It fuels perseverance, nurtures the love of learning and transforms potential into achievement.

It is through commitment that we elevate through knowledge— with heart, rigour and conviction.

Three Values, One Direction

Caring, mutual support, commitment: these three values feed one another. Caring creates the space where mutual support is possible. Mutual support is the ground on which commitment takes on its full meaning. And together, they carry us toward what our motto expresses: “Rising through knowledge. Shining through the heart.”

Motto

Rising Through Knowledge

Rising through knowledge is much more than learning. It means progressively engaging in one’s own instruction, growing within a school community that is moving forward together, day after day.

At the school, this is expressed concretely: transmitting a broad and deep culture, developing critical thinking and curiosity, stimulating creativity in service for the common good. Every student is encouraged to deploy their intelligence, build solid skills and take responsibility for their choices. To leave a positive mark in their community and in the world.

Shining Through the Heart

Shining through the heart means nurturing the human and relational dimension at the core of the Marcelline approach. It means choosing to listen, to be generous, and to care for others every day, in every relationship.

At the school, this translates into humanistic values: mutual support, recognition of diversity, and radiance through love, joy and gratitude. Offering an inspiring presence, forging genuine bonds, flourishing in mutual respect— this is what it means to shine through the heart.

A Balance Between Knowledge and Being

The school’s motto reflects a fundamental balance— between head and heart, between academic rigour and humanity. It invites every student to discover and go beyond their potential, to open themselves up from within and to others, and to become an agent of positive change in society.

“Rising through knowledge. Shining through the heart.” It is not a promise; it is a compass. One that Collège Sainte-Marcelline chooses, every day, for each of its students.

Educational Project

The educational project of Collège Sainte-Marcelline rests on a conviction inherited from its founder, Mgr Luigi Biraghi: education shapes complete persons— intellectually rigorous, humanly committed and open to the world.

This project’s state of existence, lived daily by students, teachers and the entire educational team.

A Complete Instruction, From Head to Heart

At the school, learning is not limited to academic disciplines. Every student is accompanied in developing their whole person— their intelligence, self-confidence, ability to engage in and to positively contribute to society.

Offering a Quality Education

Transmitting rigorous knowledge, stimulating creativity and critical thinking, and preparing every student to make informed choices, for themselves and for their community.

Instilling Courage

Encouraging students to take their rightful place, to dare to make a difference, to welcome cultural diversity with openness and respect.

Shaping the Mind

Developing intellectual curiosity, fostering the constructive exchange of ideas and helping each student find a personal and effective approach to learning.

Growing

Supporting personal development: recognizing one’s strengths and limits, managing emotions, cultivating a healthy lifestyle and building sincere and respectful relationships.

Doing Things Differently

Shaping young people who can recognize injustice and fight it, actively engage in their community and make responsible choices for society.

Embracing Silence

In a fast-moving world, learning to pause, to nurture one’s inner self, to practice attentive listening and to savour the present moment — to grow in humanity.

A Window to the Spiritual Dimension

Reflecting on the meaning of one’s life, cultivating one’s inner self and learning to know others in all their diversity— to eradicate prejudice and foster dialogue and mutual respect.

Offering an Inspiring Presence

Nurturing relationships, recognizing the value of others, cultivating joy and collaborating with sincerity. Because it is through example, more than through words, that one truly inspires.

A Human Pedagogy Centred on Every Student

The Marcelline educational approach is built on closeness and example. Every student is accompanied in a personalized way, in a caring and structured environment, where adults are inspiring presences rather than mere transmitters of knowledge.

This family spirit, inherited directly from the Marcelline tradition, fosters a secure environment where individuals are empowered to unlock their full potential, to learn from their mistakes and to fully flourish.

Signatory of the Global Compact on Education

Collège Sainte-Marcelline has signed the Global Compact on Education, an initiative launched in 2019 by Pope Francis, that brings together educational institutions from around the world, of various religious and non-religious backgrounds. One shared conviction: education is the most powerful lever for building a more just, united and humane world.

Born from a call for a global educational alliance, this initiative invites institutions, families and communities to join efforts so that education generates peace, justice and openness among individuals.

By enrolling, the school confirms a commitment that goes beyond its walls: to shape young people who are capable of actively contributing to society and to the world. A commitment that fits naturally into our mission: together, inspiring humanity.

What Our Families Say

The school offers students a family-like and stimulating environment where they receive a quality education that is warm, professional and imbued with a solid pedagogical spirit.

Nayla Cabbabé

The school’s contribution goes far beyond teaching. In a family-oriented environment that is close to its students, the entire team shares the same values and a deep desire to give students what they need. The school nurtures curious, committed and happy young people — true citizens of tomorrow.

 Martin Proulx

All five of my children have attended the school. They have all received an excellent education that eased their transition to adult life.
