Entering High School
At Collège Sainte-Marcelline, entering high school is an enriching adventure, supported by personalized guidance: a dedicated homeroom teacher, an exclusive mentoring program and tailored learning support.
Homeroom Teacher
A dedicated homeroom teacher whose role is to look after every student’s overall well-being. She helps them overcome challenges and to make a seamless transition to high school. She is also the bridge between students, parents, teachers and the administration.
Exclusive Mentoring Program
Our mentoring program allows an experienced student to accompany a Grade 7 student in her smooth integration into the Marcelline family.
Academic Excellence Within Reach
Academic excellence at Collège Sainte-Marcelline is widely recognized and within reach. The training offered to students allows them to master the legendary Marcelline work method, in every discipline.
In the first cycle of high school, students benefit from a period called Français Plus, which aims to broaden vocabulary, develop oral competency and support students in reinforcing the foundations acquired in elementary school — in a lively and upbeat way.
In Grade 7, students are placed in regular or enriched English, based on their competency level. After this first year of the cycle, they all move to enriched English for the remainder of high school.
Tailored Learning Support
Students benefit from comprehensive and adapted learning support. Teachers are regularly available to answer questions and accompany students in their progress.
For those who need more targeted support, private tutoring in various subjects is offered, along with a tutoring program run by Grade 10 and 11 students. This is a particularly valuable resource for new high school students.
Students requiring more specialized support can also count on the services of a learning support specialist and a psychosocial counsellor.
Anchoring Period
One period per week is reserved for students’ personal development to facilitate their integration into high school. Various school staff — homeroom teacher, nurse, psychosocial counsellor, learning support specialist, administration — take turns offering workshops on targeted themes: physical and mental health, social skills workshops, work and study strategies, etc.
Readmission Standards
A student continues her academic journey at the school if she meets the institution’s readmission standards.
Grades 7, 8 and 9
In French, a student is considered to have succeeded if she achieves an average of 65% or higher on skills 1 (reading) and 2 (writing) in French on the year-end summary.
In mathematics, a student is considered to have succeeded if she achieves an average of 60% or higher on the year-end assessment in Grades 7 and 8, and 70% or higher on the year-end summary in Grade 9.
In other subjects, a student is passing if she obtains 60% or higher.
If a student fails one or more subjects in the final assessment, she must comply with the following requirements, as applicable:
- 1 to 3 subjects, including French and mathematics: the student advances to the next grade level provided she passes all make-up exams, in accordance with established procedures.
- 4 subjects: the student must pass the make-up exams, otherwise she must repeat the year or leave the school.
- 4 subjects including French and mathematics, or 5 or more subjects: the student fails and must repeat the year or leave the school. Make-up exams are not possible.
Grades 10 and 11
A student who fails one or more subjects in Grades 10 or 11 will have her academic record reviewed by the administration, and the decision regarding her future academic path will be made by the administration, based on the specific rules of the Sanction des études.
Graduation
The Collège Sainte-Marcelline Diploma
A student receives our institution’s diploma under the following conditions:
- Having achieved an overall average of 60% or higher
- Having demonstrated good conduct throughout high school
- Having been diligent throughout high school
- Having completed a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer work during high school
- Having passed the Red Cross first aid course
- Having passed the self-defence course
The Secondary School Diploma (DES)
The Minister of Education awards the Secondary School Diploma (D.E.S.) to students who have accumulated at least 54 credits from Grades 10 and 11, including 20 credits from Grade 11, mandatorily including the following credits:
- 6 credits in French, language of instruction, Grade 11
- 4 credits in English as a second language, Grade 11
- 2 credits in Québec Culture and Citizenship (CCQ) or Physical Education and Health (ÉPS), Grade 11
- 4 credits in mathematics, Grade 10
- 4 credits in science and technology, Grade 10
- 4 credits in history, Grade 10
- 2 credits in arts, Grade 10
These subjects — except CCQ, ÉPS and arts — are the subject of a Ministry-wide exam in June of Grade 10 or 11, except for the Grade 11 written French exam, which takes place in May.
