Activities That Create Real Bonds
International Day of Older Persons — October 1, 2025
To mark the International Day of Older Persons, elementary school students expressed their gratitude toward the residents of Résidence l’Amitié, for all they have contributed to society, and above all, for the unique and precious people they are.
The grade school choir performed Mon ami aux cheveux blancs by Ingrid St-Pierre, a song that captures, in a few verses, everything Carrefour Mosaïque embodies.
Grades 1 and 2: Pumpkin Decorating
For Halloween 2025, Grade 1 and 2 students joined residents of Résidence l’Amitié to paint pumpkins together. A colourful and joyful activity that allowed children to get to know their neighbours in a playful and relaxed setting.
Grade 4: Intergenerational Nutrition Workshop
This engaging workshop takes students on a two-part journey into the world of sustainable food. First, students learn about nutrition and eco-responsibility. They then form teams with seniors to imagine and design an original fictional meal.
The second phase invites participants to analyze the life cycle of their meal, from farm to table, developing an awareness of sustainability. A wonderful opportunity to learn how to nourish the future, together!
Grade 5: Rocks and Minerals Workshop
Grade 5 students dived into the fascinating world of rocks and minerals, alongside curious and passionate residents. Between scientific discoveries and intergenerational exchanges, the workshop sparked curiosity in the young people while creating precious moments with the elders.
The surprise came from a resident who was a trained geologist and had brought his own collection of rocks to observe. A role reversal appreciated by everyone; the students were the experts, and the residents, the most enthusiastic learners of the day!
What These Encounters Bring to Elementary School Students
Participating in Carrefour Mosaïque is learning in a different way. Students develop empathy, a sense of responsibility and the ability to communicate with people from another generation. They also discover, often for the first time, that their knowledge and energy can make a real difference in someone’s life.
These experiences nurture Marcelline values every day: caring, mutual support and commitment, lived no longer as words, but as concrete actions.
I have an unforgettable memory from Résidence l’Amitié. On a wonderful day, we went to visit the seniors. We did a very fun activity: exploring mysterious rocks. The moment was filled with laughter, discovery and teamwork. This experience will always be etched in my heart.

A Living Program, Always Evolving
Carrefour Mosaïque in elementary school is not limited to one activity per year. Each encounter opens the door to the next, and ideas often emerge from the exchanges themselves. The program grows with the students and the residents, carried by the enthusiasm of both communities.
